PEGI Rates GTA 6 18 Over Decapitation, Drug Use, and Sexual Content in a Since-Deleted Listing

Grand Theft Auto 6 has received an 18 rating from PEGI, the European age rating organization, and the listing described the game’s adult content in unusual detail before it was removed from PEGI’s website.

The rating summary said Rockstar’s game “features strong graphic violence, strong sexual themes, and use of illegal drugs,” and the content notes revealed specific gaming mechanics that Rockstar has not detailed itself. GTA 6 launches on consoles on November 19.

The PEGI rating adds to the age ratings already published for GTA 6, including the Mature rating covered in GTA 6’s M rating in Australia. PEGI went further than the other boards in describing what players can actually do.

What the Deleted PEGI Listing Says About GTA 6

On violence, PEGI wrote that “violence is bloody with a high degree of realism, with certain weapons being able to cause greater damage such as detailed decapitation and dismemberment.”

Earlier Grand Theft Auto games mostly showed violence through blood pools, bullet wound decals, and physics-driven animations, so dismemberment is a clear change for the series.

Drug use is described as “frequent and prominent.” According to PEGI, players can use illegal drugs directly from their inventory, and the listing gave one example: cocaine can be carried by the player and snorted from their hand at any time. The listing does not say whether drug use has gameplay effects.

The sexual content notes are the most specific. PEGI said GTA 6 includes “scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes.” The listing also describes a strip club where players can pay for private dances and move their hands onto the dancers’ bodies.

Rockstar’s August gameplay reveal showed that protagonists Jason and Lucia can be played as a couple in a long-term relationship, although the relationship does not have to be romantic. The PEGI listing does not say how the intercourse scenes connect to that storyline.

GTA 6 Rating and Release Details

The PEGI 18 rating means the game is intended for adults only in countries that use the PEGI system. Parents who manage console accounts for younger players can use the PEGI 18 label to set age restrictions before the November 19 launch.

GTA 6 is coming to consoles first. A PC release date has not been announced.

PEGI has not explained why the GTA 6 listing was removed from its website, and Rockstar has not commented on the content details the listing revealed.
